Breaking the legacy of the past - establishing independent public opinion polls in Slovakia

The article attempts to show how opinion polls moved from hostile beginnings to become an established part of the public environment. It looks at the role of polls during the communist era and since. It includes a debate over the position of polls during election campaigns, their accuracy and role as informers of the public mood.
